Certified Programme in Current Trends in Management of Security and Safety in the Workplace

This combined programme in Management of Security and Safety in the Workplace covers the core principles of occupational safety and health alongside workplace security protocols.

It is ideally suited to managers and directors responsible for daily security and safety concerns, and also provides valuable insights for security and safety practitioners at all levels.

The curriculum addresses all essential aspects of health and safety management, including the legal framework, risk assessment, and control standards. Delegates will be provided with practical tools such as H&S checklists, report templates, and record sheets. The programme also covers specific health and safety considerations related to construction activities, environmental factors, and international standards.

A comprehensive review of relevant legislation will be included, such as:

  • Site Waste Management Plans Regulations

  • The Control of Artificial Radiation at Work Regulations

  • Chemicals (Hazard Information and Packaging for Supply) Regulations (CHIP4)

  • COSHH

  • European regulations on classification, packaging, and labelling of substances

In addition to HSE-focused content, the programme explores best practices in workplace security management. Topics include:

  • Door entry systems

  • Locking mechanisms for equipment and storage (padlocks, cages)

  • Safes for cash and valuables

  • Organisational systems such as key cabinets

  • Communication protocols for security coordination

Effective workplace security is essential not only for the protection of physical assets but also for the safety of employees and members of the public. The content recognises that factors such as building layout, industry type, and organisational function all influence the appropriate selection and implementation of security measures.

One of the key challenges in workplace security is maintaining a secure environment while ensuring the space remains open and welcoming for staff, clients, and visitors. This programme equips attendees with the knowledge and tools to achieve this balance.

Additional topics include:

  • Working in the public sector security industry

  • Conflict management in the private security industry

Delegates will also explore the legislative context surrounding workplace security, including:

  • The Data Protection Act 1998 (particularly relevant when deploying CCTV systems)

  • The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974

  • The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999

Security provisions may be legally required under these acts in relation to employers’ duty of care to their employees.
